Spark for mac calendar12/16/2023 ![]() The maple trees have grown thicker and taller, resembling a young, frail boy who gradually grows into a strong man. The changing seasons of the Maple Leaf Garden marked my life. She also raced with me and took me to look at the moon and stars in the many small clearings. She taught me to sing with her gentle and deep voice we chased birds and watched them fly to the high treetops. Countless times Grandma held me with her warm and rough hands while we walked along those twisting paths. They wind through the trees and garden like a mass of brick sea snakes, connecting the entrances of the apartment buildings to the parking lot. Under that sea, still visible in tantalizing glimpses through the gaps between the leaf coverage, the narrow, red, square-shaped brick pedestrian paths spool out in all directions. Furry and smooth, lush and rich, juicy and sweet, the peaches sold by vendors tasted like honey, making me salivate.Īs seen from the windows of her small, ninth-floor apartment, the whole community resembles a rolling ocean of burgundy. The enticing smell of food often filled the air, and you could hear vendors hawking fruits outside the wall. The security guards stood erect at the gate, like pillars in a temple. The painter seemingly dipped the leaves in the unique red pigments produced by the fall season, which glow like red velvet under the rays of the sun, endlessly layered one on top of the other. When seen from a distance in this season, it looks much like an oil painting come to life. But, I must admit that autumn brings the beauty of the community into full bloom. To me, an eternal beauty holds this place. The name, as one can suspect, derives from the hundreds of maple trees encompassing the 13 pollution-stained yellow buildings, like many loyal soldiers surrounding their generals. If you’ve tried Spark before and it’s not for you, there may not be enough different in today’s update to tempt you, but if you use an iPad at all, don’t underestimate how nice it can be to employ multiple windows while working through email. My grandmother’s neighborhood - a housing complex in Xi’an, China, where my parents raised me - has a very apt and homey name, Maple Leaf Garden. Federico, John, and I use its team features to share and comment on emails together, which is an extremely valuable aid to collaboration. Spark is one of the best email options on the App Store, and I especially recommend it for teams. Spark has always been great at providing customization tools, so it’s nice to see yet another added to the app. Also, there’s a new option to customize the toolbar actions when viewing a message. The biggest standout of the redesign is that Spark can now display avatars next to messages, similar to what the official Gmail client offers, which I really value. While the app will still look entirely familiar to existing users, I think the tweaks to font details, spacing, and layout result in a better experience overall. I was happy to find that you can choose from both grey and true black themes, both of which look especially nice with the app’s blue accent colors the only drawback is that just the grey theme can currently follow iOS’ system setting, so if you want to use true black, the app will stay in that mode until you manually change it.ĭark mode comes alongside a design refresh for Spark. Now, Spark supports both light and dark modes and follows the system setting by default, though you can choose to perpetually keep the app in a single mode. Unlike many other apps that have added support for iOS 13’s dark mode this fall, today’s update for Spark is especially noteworthy because the app didn’t formerly offer a dark mode option at all. Where apps like the official Gmail client don’t even support Split View yet(!!), I’m happy to see Spark follow Apple Mail’s example in making multiwindow a core functionality. Spark is no exception here: the flexibility to browse the app while writing a message, or even compose multiple messages at once, is fantastic. I’ve been using Apple Mail in multiple windows since iPadOS first launched, and it’s especially handy for composing a message while still viewing other messages in your inbox, or that you’ve saved for later. ![]() Multiwindow on iPad is excellent to have in an email app. Spark, the email client from Readdle, received a strong update today that adds support for the latest iOS and iPadOS features, dark mode and multiwindow, while also introducing a design refresh that refines, rather than reimagines what was already there.
